R. was once again wildly dreaming of the disgraceful manner in which the late King of Prussia had treated him regarding a remark made by R. about Prussia, of which I was a witness. –

Richard’s “dream king” is probably Frederick William IV (1795 – 1861), who was critically perceived at his time as an aesthetic but incompetent, unworldly alcoholic (cartoon Isidor Popper, 1849).

R. is working on his composition for Frau Schott, which he also plays for me in the evening. R. is still unwell and has many annoyances to endure; the disappointment over Glatz, the matter of the inn, the accumulation of bills to be paid, and above all, the ruined relationship with Voltz and Batz! …

In the evening, finished the first volume of Gfrörer.
