R. did not have a good night and has to write letters in the morning, which always upsets him. Yesterday a telegram arrived from friend Richter, announcing his engagement; we congratulate him all the more joyfully since he is said to have chosen a good and pretty girl from a good family, with means of her own.
R. sends my father the score of Die Walküre. The painters Brückner arrive and say how happy they are to be rid of Herr Hoffmann. They make no demands of any kind and are now going joyfully to work. —
In the evening finished Anabasis. R. complains to me that he still has 50 pages of his score to write!
