Tuesday 5th (January 5, 1875)

Spent the whole day in bed with a severe headache, much hilarity over the fact that I was Schopenhauer’s first victim as an educator; he recommends going out for two hours every day, which I did on a cold day, and as a result of which I am now suffering. – 

R. had a letter from a master cellarman in Deidesheim, who asked him to be a godfather to his child (his name is Wagner).^[1]

Herbeck requests Tristan and Isolde for Vienna and Niemann requests it for Berlin, R. would like to grant it to the latter on the condition that he attends the rehearsals, and deny it to the former.
